It is available in different sizes (S for finger thickness of 7.5-12.5 mm, M for finger thickness 10-19 mm, L for finger thickness 12.5-25.5 mm). As an alternative to the silicone finger clip, disposable SpO2 sensors (e.g. Flexi Wrap or Soft Wrap) can also be used.To record the desaturations, the SpO2 values are averaged over a maximum of 4 beats. The measuring range for oxygen saturation is 70-100% and for pulse rate 30-240 bpm, the accuracy is ± 3% and ± 3bpm respectively.Both the basal oxygen saturation and the number of desaturations (index) are determined. The desaturations provide information about hypopnoea, among other things. The size of the desaturation can be adjusted depending on the selected evaluation standard. Changes in the peripheral pulse wave are used to determine autonomic arousals.The time from the end of a respiratory event until the oxygen saturation rises again is determined as the cycle time and can be interpreted in terms of cardiac dysfunction.The R-wave of the ECG and the peripheral pulse wave can be used to calculate the pulse transit time (PTT), the PWV and thus the continuous blood pressure (optional).The finger clip is part of the basic equipment for polygraphy according to EBM 30900.
